Flowers, flowers, everywhere!

In an attempt to loosen up my style, I tried a couple of paintings without drawing first. I don't know that I'd want to do this with everything, but I like the style for bouquets of flowers.

October Weekend

Didn't have the energy to head out anywhere fancy like Arnold Arboretum, but had a couple of lovely views at home.

Tried the Front view with a slightly different color scheme, but decided I liked the first after all. Here is the second:

Today I'll be experimenting with my new fountain pen and Noodler's bulletproof ink...if I can figure out how to fill the pen.

Fall = pumpkins

Eventually I will get the hang of shadows. Quin gold came in handy today, both for the undercoating if the pumpkin and the shadow of the sugar bowl. Used a little trans red oxide as well, and moonglow for the pumpkin and the "ground." Probably should tHave used the gold/orange/moonglow combo for the stem. The raw umber is a bit harsh. Still waffling between trans red oxide and Quin burnt orange, but no QBO used to make this art.

Missing Santa Teresa

Decided to paint my home away from home today. Wish it was a Sunday there...get up, have coffee, walk to the Super Ronny...spend the day walking the beach. Not sure when I'll be back to this fun, relaxing village.

Saturday Morning Still Life

Trying to paint every weekend is sometimes challenging. Especially since I have continued to whittle down to a trim travel palette. I've spent a lot of time practicing with mixing colors to make the best choices for times when I can only take a few colors along. I finally realized that since I am mostly painting at home, I should just use a larger palette and keep track of what I'm using. Over time, whatever I'm using most will be the colors for travel. Duh! So, I got two still life pics done, one with ink and one with watercolor pencil to draw before painting.  Too bad there's no way to combine the first sugar bowl with the second apples! (sigh)
